It is a brand new Year !! 2013 !!

To celebrate all things New I'm posting about these little chairs I got off the side of the road for $5.

There was two of them and although the vinyl was torn the frame was still good and the padding great... so what is a person to do, we couldn't just leave them there ...

It was an interesting process. I had no clue what to do and was learning on the job.  I used the old torn cover as a pattern and worked from there.  Two Cute New Chairs for the New Year a happy 4 year old with his own lounge chairs - life is good.

These are the easiest baby prezzies ever.  Just cut 6 blocks roughly 12 x 12cm of some fun fabric. Sew them together so that you end up with a cube,  stuff and sew closed.  One of mine has a little bell inside so it's a bit jingly. 

The tags can be from any ribbon. I have found the greatest place to buy a super selection from. Have a look at  Craftqueen

There is nothing like a good old deadline to help you get something off the ground that you've been wanting to try for months.  This little boy backpack caught my eye a while ago, I even knew who to make it for and that I had the perfect fabric waiting just for it.   http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/08/bitty-boy-bean-bags-and-backpack.html#more  Time seems to be in rather limited supply here (and I'm sure all over). What was different this week? I certainly didn't have MORE time but yet here it is, a finished product and a satisfied me just in time for the little friends' 1st birthday.

                                                      

I have mentioned before how I absolutely love re purposing things - the original article has a lovely tutorial on making the shoulder straps but I had these on a bag that we're just not enjoying anymore so with a little modification I sewed them straight onto this new bag.

                                                             I lined it with some canvas to give it a nice sturdy form.  The closing "thingy" was also re purposed from another unused garment.

These Beanbags came from the original idea (and the fact that I had just about enough fabric left to make them). I didn't use her lovely idea (her felt letters are able to button on and off )- I do appreciate  the educational value except I have been a mommy just long enough to know that the letters and the beanbags will never find each other after the first two weeks.

T-Shirt Patchwork pants

This week my inspirations came from an idea I've seen on a blog called MADE they are celebrating all things BOY as its not as easy to find cute ready inspiration for BOYS as it is for the Girls in our lives. So first go and look what she did http://www.dana-made-it.com/2011/02/patchwork-pants-with-guest-kojo-designs.html then see what plan I came up with.

These pants are made from recycled T-shirts. I love re-purposing things. When a t-shirt is marked and stained, turns out the back is still perfectly good to use.

On the mentioned blog they give a great description on how to go about putting your pieces together. I used the front of a polo type shirt for this pocket (minus the collar)

 



Then tried out different techniques all over. (Now  Dad wants one too - I'll need more T-shirts)




These pants came in handy this weekend as D and S participated in a Parade.  Their theme was Runnaway Circus and they had to be dressed colourfully.

To finish the outfit for my Boy I went to Salvos in search of a BIG hat or something to put on his head. What I found worked great I just covered the writing with a big felt star Seth chose the colour and we were set for the Runnaway Circus.

Apron

Well here it is, my very first entry into blogland. "One small step for man one giant leap ..for me" I have procrastinated long enough so here goes - my plan is to have one crafty thing to add here every week so lets not get ahead of ourselves and focus on the issue at hand.  A dear friend of the family is turning 12. Happy Birthday Anja! I have some inside info that she is getting a Junior Master Chef cookbook as one of her presents, so naturally we need to add an Apron. Here modelled by Dayna is the creation I came up with.  I love the fabric and recycled the patch pockets from some old Jeans (Oops they belonged to P. sure he won't read this) Then the headpiece (inspired by an idea from Karola .. had to improvise due to limited scraps of  fabric.
